Portrait of Kastoria & Siatista: Welcome to the Fur Cities

October 31, 2018 - The fur trade has been the driving force turning two remote towns in Greece into a global fur trade centre. Welcome to the Fur Cities of Kastoria and Siatista.

Ever since the 14th century, the fur trade has been the driving force which turned the two remote towns in Greece into a global fur trade centre.
Far from the noise of the big European capitals, with time these two Greek towns have become home to manufacturing companies and traditional fur workshops where furriers and designers create some of Europe’s finest fur fashion.
Built on the centuries-old fur craft, now Kastoria and Siatista turn to new, sustainable practices of farming, dressing and dyeing and manufacturing to ensure that the fur tradition in the region of Western Macedonia continues.
