To swim or not to swim: An interpretation of farmed mink’s motivation for a water bath

June 17, 2015 - This study, published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science in 2008, reviews the existing literature on swimming water for mink. The article concludes that the absence of access to swimming water, without prior experience, does not lead to consistent changes in the level of stereotypic behaviour, or anticipatory responses in mink.

June 4, 2015 - In this review of scientific litterature the author answers to the domestication status of the farmed mink: "There is therefore not the slighted doubt any more as how to answer the question, namely with an unequivocal yes, minks are domesticated, on a morphological, physiological, genetic and ethological basis and research."

The development of on-farm welfare assessment protocols for foxes and mink: the WelFur project

June 2, 2015 - This published scientific paper describes the development of the WelFur protocols for foxes and mink. The WelFur programme is based on the principles and criteria of the Welfare Quality project. Funded by the European Commission, Welfare Quality is a European research program designed to develop European standards for on-farm welfare assessment and product information systems as well as practical strategies for improving animal welfare.
